Their story
Sophia Alekseyevna, born in Moscow on September 27, 1657, was a formidable figure of the House of Romanov. Following the death of her brother Feodor III, she skillfully navigated a period of political turmoil, effectively ruling Russia as regent for her young half-brothers, Ivan V and Peter I. Her regency, from 1682 to 1689, was marked by significant diplomatic achievements and a strengthening of the state. Though later confined to Novodevichy Convent, Sophia's intellect and political acumen left an indelible mark on Russian history. She passed away in Moscow on July 14, 1704.
