Their story

Alexei Mikhailovich, born in Moscow on March 29, 1629, ascended to the throne as Tsar of All Russia, and later Emperor of all the Russias, as a member of the House of Romanov. His reign saw significant internal reforms, including the Sobornoye Ulozheniye, a new legal code that solidified serfdom and shaped Russian society for centuries. He engaged in conflicts with Poland and Sweden, expanding Russian territories eastward and incorporating much of Ukraine. A devout Orthodox Christian, he supported the reforms of Patriarch Nikon, though this sparked a schism within the church. Alexei Mikhailovich died in Moscow on February 8, 1676.
